I have a MAJOR sweet tooth and I like to put sugar on everything! So I thought finding a way to eat oatmeal without a mountain of brown sugar was impossible. Then one day while I was creeping on Facebook I came across a conversation about oatmeal and everyone was sharing their recipes.
One of the girls taking part in the conversation was an avid strength trainer so eating a high protein diet was essential. Here was her recipe… 1/4 cup oats, 1 TBSP wheat germ, 2 TBSP flax seed milled (ground) a sprinkle of cinnamon and some bee pollen about 1 tsp. and then top it off with straight bran about 1 tbsp. I add 3/4 cup water to it and throw it in the microwave for about 1min, 35sec. and then instead of brown sugar, i use vanilla flavored protein powder as a protein boost and it doubles as a sweetener 🙂
Now, I’m not much for all the ‘extras’ she’s mixing in the oatmeal but the using vanilla protein powder for a sweetener? Genius!!
My husband and I are both into strength training, nutritional supplements and healthy eating so our cupboards are fully stocked with protein powders. (We buy ProGrade, the BEST nutritional value on the market in my opinion!)
I jumped right up, and made my usually oatmeal breakfast (quick oats on top of frozen bluberries) and topped it off with Prograde vanilla protein. It was delicious! No more brown sugar for our family, the girls enjoyed it as much as I did.
